Cell rubber is made of rubber with a sponge-like feel, but the cells are closed making it virtually impermeable for moisture. Cell rubber is available as sheeting, as strips in coils and, if required, with a self-adhesive backing.

Sponge rubber is an open-cell-like type of rubber on the basis of natural rubber or synthetic rubber, such as CR (neoprene) EPDM rubber. Sponge rubber materials will withstand the weather and ozone, making them resistant to ageing, although they have only moderate resistance to oils and fats. Sponge rubber is available in various grades, hardnesses, and colors.

TPE (Thermoplastic Elastomer)

Hofland Deltaflex Rubbertechniek has also productionfacilities for production of profiles in TPE (thermoplastic Elastomer or “plastic rubber”. TPE is used often in injectionproduction and is applicated in products as sportsproducts, toys, audiohardware, airbags, medical products, camp-products etc.

As a use as sealingprofile TPE is mostly used in interior situations for door- and windowsealing. These are relatively easy to replace.

Since we produce with TPE we have had a lot of experiences for the usage of TPE as a sealing profile and we can conclude with the following profits:

  • Easy productionproces
  • TPE is recyclable
  • Easily fusing to for example window-frames
  • Compared to tooling for rubber profiles, TPE has low tooling costs
  • TPE can be better processed in smaller dimensions and profiles with a small skin
  • Herethrough TPE is also a good option for prototyping

TPE can be delivered in different quality. Hofland Deltaflex Rubbertechniek uses only the best quality of TPE: TPE-S SEBS (Styrol-Ethylene-Butylene-Styrol).

TPE has also many disadvantages comparing with rubber use:

  • Higher costs of raw material, herethrough TPE gives only price benefit in smaller amounts
  • TPE has a small “memory”Gering “geheugen”.
    The resilience (return in original form), especially after constant pressure or load, after a while considerably less than, for example, an EPDM rubber profile. Above 80 ° C. will decrease the compressionset with large steps
  • Minor durability compared with rubber


The overall difference between TPE and TPE rubber is that TPE ask a typical plasticsprocess (fusing at 140 ° C.) and rubber needs a vulcanisationprocess. Our staff are pleased to advise you about the choice for TPE or Rubber.
